General Description of Classes and Workshops
Scheduled to begin September 2011

Beginner Levels
Level 1 is for Beginners. It is an introduction to the Computer, the Mouse and the Keyboard. You will learn about the Taskbar, the Toolbars, Opening & Closing Windows, how to create an Icon, how to create a Folder, how to install a program from a CD and how to send and retrieve a simple email. A MUST FOR THE BEGINNER.

Level 2 is an Introduction to Word Processing. Here is where you learn most of the Basics—including Word Wrap, Formatting, Saving, Printing, Spell Check, how to retrieve Data files using a Flash Drive and how to send and retrieve a simple email. THIS IS WHERE YOU LEARN MOST OF THE BASICS YOU WILL NEED FOR ALL SUBSEQUENT COURSES.

Intermediate Levels
INTERMEDIATE WORD (Level 3) is a much higher level of Word Processing and can only be successful after mastery of Level 2 has been achieved. Here you learn all about Formatting a document, Inserting pictures or graphics, changing Fonts, Sizes, Colors, Cutting & Pasting, several different ways of checking Spelling, how to Save and Retrieve Data files using a Flash drive, how to use email to send your work home plus lots of "tricks" used in DeskTop Publishing.

INTERNET (Level 4) is learning all about Web Pages and how to navigate the INTERNET. You will use much of what you learned in Level 2 and 3. There is much emphasis on GOOGLE and other search engines, and how to use them. They are quite remarkable tools. Students are taught how to use the new Gleneagles Country Club interactive website. Here is where you read or print the Eagle, make Club Reservations, look up member phone numbers and addresses. You will be encouraged to choose a topic to explore whether it be a trip, print a boarding pass, get tickets to a show, or researching a Doctor, medication, a diagnosis or look at your family tree.

Advanced Levels- CLASSES & WORKSHPS
A LOOK INSIDE THE APPLE/MAC COMPUTER Learn about the "DOCK" at the bottom of the desktop, as well as how to use Safari (web browser), Mail, iCal (calendar), iTunes (music of course), etc. This is course will be taught for Beginners and Advanced students.

MAINTAINING YOUR COMPUTER is as important as running a household: you have to clean, get rid of junk, take out the trash and make sure no illness invades it. The same should be done to your computer. Just like any household, your computer will run better and safer. Students are requested to bring their own laptop computers to class, if available, to actually update and check their own systems.

E-Mail is exactly what it implies, however it is not just writing and receiving email, but it is how to Blind Carbon Copy, download files and photos, how to send attachments, create groups and how to clean up your email so that you do not send bulk email addresses on to the world for the spammers to get their hands on. You MUST have mastered Level 2 and 3 in order to take this class.

Facebook is a full service Social Networking program which operates via the internet, and let's you post your entire background and history. You will make "friends" of people who have similar backgrounds or are invited by you to join in the FUN. Exchange pictures and Biographies. It’s fun and an easy way to have personal contacts with family and friends.

HOW TO ... will focus on an Introduction to the Gleneagles Interactive Country Club Website. Here you can pay your Club bill, read Board minutes, read and print the NEWSLETTER (Eagle), lookup staff phone numbers, check committee chair persons, use the members Directory and enter your own "profile".

iPHONE Workshop In this workshop you will learn the basics of using your iPhone. It is a computer as well as a cell phone. Hopefully you will leave this workshop feeling comfortable and excited with your new acquisition. You should HAVE an iPhone to take this Workshop Please bring it with you. NO PHONE RESTRICTIONS HERE.

Introduction to EXCEL is an electronic Spreadsheet program. This introduction is for Students who would like to use Excel but know nothing about it. They will learn how to enter numerical values or data into the rows or columns of a spreadsheet, and to use them for calculations, or for organizing things such as address or phone books, collections of items, or keeping track of data when working for an organization. It is a program for many uses. STUDENTS MUST HAVE COMPLETED LEVEL 3 BEFORE TAKING THIS COURSE.

PICASA ... Learn HOW TO Download, Install and use PICASA in easy steps, EDIT and Organize you photos with this FREE user friendly software from Google. You will learn how to share your photos and many more features using this remarkable program.

PRINT SHOP is a basic desktop publishing program. You will learn how to create greeting cards, business cards, signs or posters, award certificates, and mailing labels. You can be very creative, but you don’t have to be an artist, it's all done for you. It is fun, but again a foundation of computer basics is necessary to fully explore this very productive software. Your "rewards" are your achievements.

Skype is a communication program which operates via the internet, and let's you make Free video - or regular phone calls from one SKYPE user to another. It’s fun and an easy way to have personal contacts with family and friends.
