SUMMER 2011
Summer has begun at Gleneagles and the computer club is busy planning fall classes and workshops. Everyone is actively trying to put together a program that will surpass anything we have had in the past. New lesson plans, new teacher training, new software and lots more are part of the daily computer center activities.
Committees are hard at work reviewing our on-line membership database and trying to improve it. Meeting programs are being discussed and evaluated, but this past year is going to be hard to surpass. Every volunteer has become more and more involved. All our volunteers were invited to a “thank you” luncheon in April and over 30 attended. The education committee has switched their study materials from CD’s to Flash Drives. Investing $5.00 or $10.00 in a flash drive makes for a useful tool with many functions. Students are encouraged to save their photos etc. on a flash drive and take it with them when they visit family and friends.
We continue to “give away” rebuilt computers to Gleneagles employees including adding larger hard drives and more memory to these donated used systems. The wireless installation is installed in the community. Many residents have switched over from their DSL or CABLE, but are finding the overall speed is a little slower. Not many of us need lightning speed to download our e-mails.The bulk agreement with the provider, paid for in our dues, allows every resident or guest to log onto the internet anywhere in the community using their computer, iPhone, iPad etc..
September 19. begins our 2011-2012 season, the Gleneagles computer club’s 15th. year and promises to be the “best yet”. This years focus will be "How To Leave Your Children More Than Money", a multi faceted concept.
