General Wireless Information
EPIC Wireless Communications
Epic, our vendor is currently installing their equipment around the community and should be
complete. This installation and the monthly internet service is being
provided to every Gleneagles Residence as part of our normal monthly maintenance fees. Epic technicians
will install their service and only charge a nominal fee for anyone who requires an additional wireless antenna
to receive and use thr Internet on their service.
What is the Internet?
The internet is an electronic communications network that connects computer networks and
organizational computer facilities around the world.
What is Wi-Fi and how does it work?
Wi-Fi stands for Wireless Fidelity. Wi-Fi takes a hard-wired internet connection and broadcasts it
over the airwaves as a radio signal. From there your Wi-Fi card may be built into your laptop, or
plugged into your desktop computer and receives the signal enabling access to the internet.
What if I already have high-speed internet service?
If you already have internet service more than likely your computer is already configured for the WiFi
system. Some people may however need an additional wireless adapter to receive the signal.
Will I be able to use the telephone while connected to the internet?
Absolutely. Wi-Fi in no way interferes with telephone service. It does not operate over the phone
lines like traditional DSL service and more importantly you will not miss any phone calls while
online.
Should I keep my existing Internet Service Provider Account?
Epic recommends using our service alongside of your current internet service for a period of 30
days as we continually test the signal in the community. If you are using your comcast.net or
bellsouth.net e-mail account as your primary email, this measure will allow you to update your
friends and family of your new e-mail address.
Can I keep my AOL account?
AOL E-mail is now free. You can keep your AOL e-mail address without having the service. If you
would like to keep the AOL service and use it in conjunction with Epic Service, AOL sells a
broadband package for $9.95 per month which includes their technical support.
What additional equipment do I need in order to get the service?
You will need some sort of wireless adapter in order to receive the signal. Most new laptops come
with an adapter pre-installed. Epic’s wireless modem which brings the signal into your home and
provides a physical plug into the internet may also be required for some subscribers. This will be
determined on a case to case basis by Epic’s technicians. All installation will be by
Epic’s technicians.
How do I know my data is secure?
The data passing through Epic’s network is self-contained and not able to be accessed from
outside the network. Also, data passing through the network isn’t able to be seen from another
person on the network, it is completely separate. Epic cannot protect against harmful websites
that the subscriber chooses to visit.
Can I keep my existing email address?
If you currently subscribe to AT&T or Comcast and your E-Mail account is with them, more than
likely you will loose your old email address when the service is cancelled. If your E-mail is with a
free service such as Hotmail, MSN, GMail, Yahoo or AOL you are absolutely allowed to keep your existing
E-Mail.
Will I receive an E-mail address?
Yes. If you would like an E-Mail address they will be available at no charge to every resident.
